FIELDS OF RESEARCH INTEREST/RESEARCH TOPICS

We are one of the leading protein research laboratories in Thailand interested in a number of research areas concerned with agriculture, aquaculture and environment. Over the years, the group has produced outstanding, innovative and new knowledge in understanding infectious disease mechanisms in humans and animals. This knowledge has led to the development of new diagnostic techniques and vaccine production including groundbreaking work being carried out in emerging aquatic pathogens such as Tilapia Lake virus, Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus and Edwardsiella ictaluri bacteria. The group has diversified protein research to include the improvement of the activity of plant biomass digesting enzymes by means of protein engineering that have positive impact on pollution and industry as farm waste is converted into useful products. We also interested in using our EGFP mutants thabt have been engineered to be more specific for different type of heavy metals as an heavy metal biosensor for monitoring the contamination in water and environment.

ON-GOING RESEARCH

  • Development of vaccines for aquaculture industries.
  • Structural modification of xylanase and cellulase for activity improvement
  • Development of EGFP mutants for heavy metal detection.
  • Engineering Antibody for specific detection of insecticide residue contaminated in food products.
  • Understanding the molecular basis underlying the infection mechanism of WSSV virus in shrimps.
  • Development of bioactive compounds that inhibit malaria infection.
  • Modification of inulin and its application in food industries.
